A quick living room makeover guide!

The living room is a crucial space of a house: it's the center around which the whole apartment gravitates. In most cases this room is on the main level of a home and sees a lot of activity. This  why  your living area should be well decorated, friendly atmosphere and comfortable too for visitors. When planning a living room design, the first and most important factor to decide is the purpose of the room. One thing to remember when designing your living area is that you have to be comfortable in the room and like the style since you will most likely be spending a lot of your time in the room. Use the following quick makeover guide lines to express changes in your style whenever you feel the need:

Creative lighting:
No matter what size of a room you have, lighting can make a difference in how the room feels. Fortunately with a large room there are often more windows, so during the day lighting isn't as much of a concern. But shadows and dark corners can make everyone feel uneasy at night. If you have just one center ceiling light, you will likely want to add more light with lamps. A room can look awkward if you have too many lamps, though, so here are a couple of tips for lighting a large room.

Furniture Placement:

  • Sofa and Chairs - These are often the big-ticket items so it's important that they suit the space. The most important thing to do is measure the space before buying any of these pieces. You don't want them to be too big or too small, so it's best if you draw up a floor plan ahead of time.

  • Coffee Table - Coffee tables are practical pieces that are often found in the center of conversation areas. If you choose to use one remember that the height should be slightly lower than the seat height of the sofa and chairs around it.

Make Use of Rugs:
These can be large, medium, round or square rugs depending on your style. Area rugs can change the feel in a room and also protect your flooring. Area rugs work well on hardwood floors to define spaces. They're perfect for living rooms and foyers, and create an instant personality within each space.

Color theme:
Flip tradition and paint your ceiling a bright color while leaving your walls white. Bring the color down into the space with coordinating accessories like window-coverings and pillows.
